Wednesday, 12/12 1pm, 6:15pm PAC K,1,2 Holiday Performance PreK, K, 1, 2 Journey to Bethelehem

Songs for Pre-K:  Nine Little Shepherds, Happy Birthday Jesus, Reindeer Pokey

Students who are narrators should practice so that their lines become easy to read.  Students are also encourage to speak loudly, slowly, and clearly.

Journey to Bethlehem is a traditional Christmas pageant.  2nd Graders will play the traditional nativity roles, such as Mary, Joseph, and Wise Men.

Pre-K please refer to your teachers' instructions

Kindergarten and 1st Graders will dress as angels and shepherds.  The students may choose which they prefer.

Angels:  The most important thing is that the students wear white.  A simple angel costume could be a white shirt with a halo made from Christmas garland.  A white dress would also be fine.  Wings are optional.

Shepherds:  a simple costume can be made from a large t-shirt (for the "robe") and towel (for the "headdress").

2nd Graders will dress according to their role.

Mary-Simple robe and head covering

Joseph-very similar to the shepherds above

Wise Men-Similar to the shepherds, but use "rich" colors such as purple, royal blue, etc. and a shiny belt (could be fancy yarn) and a crown and possibly a beard.  Should carry a box representing their gift (gold, frankincense, myrrh)

Angel Gabriel-Like the angels above, but definitely should have wings and a nice halo

Donkey-Should wear all brown or gray (sweats are fine), could make ears on a headband or hat, and a tail from rope.

Cow-The lyrics say "white and red" but if you don't have those colors, that's ok.  A cowbell would be a great touch!

Sheep-should wear all white, maybe a fuzzy sweater or sweatshirt?  Make ears on a headband or hat.  A black nose will complete the look.

Doves-Also wear all white, but a white boa will complete the look

Star-Could be a simple cardboard or poster board star "sandwich-board" style costume, or as complex as a full body outfit shaped as a star.  It is up to you how you want to approach it.

Hanging of the Greens -Wear nice green clothes!

Candle Lighters - should wear nice yellow clothes

Tree Trimmers -should wear green, red, and/or white nice clothes

Narrators-please wear a nice holiday outfit.  Can be any holiday colors

Opening Song (K,1,2)

We hang the boughs of holly and branches evergreen,

and sing our thanks to God above for the advent of our King.

O the coming of god’s Son, and the hanging of the greens,

the praying of His faithful people, sweet singing in the choir.

The holly bears a berry as red as any blood,

and Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ to do poor sinners good.

The holly bears a prickle as sharp as any thorn,

and Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ on Christmas Day in the morn..

O Come Holy Savior, Promise of Salvation,

O Come Ye O come Ye to Bethlehem.

Come! We await You, Lord of ev’ry nation.

Venite adoremus, venite adoremus, venite adoremus Dominus!

1st Grade Candles Song

Then one (two, three, four) tiny candle(s) flickered in the night with the light of hope (peace, love, joy) what a heavenly sight.

Advent candle, burning bright through the night shine your light of hope (peace, love, joy)

Telling people ev’rywhere, soon the Savior comes, soon he will be here

People gather and prepare in the night with the light of hope (peace, love, joy)

Joy to the world, the Lord is come!Let Earth receive her King!

Let ev’ry heart prepare Him room

And heav’n and nature sing,

And heav’n and nature sing

And heav’n and heav’n and nature sing.

Mary Had a Baby

Mary Had a Baby, yes Lord

Mary Had a Baby, yes my Lord

Mary Had a Baby, yes Lord

A Little Tiny Baby born in Bethlehem

The virgin Mary Had a baby boy (3x)

and they said that his name was... Jesus

The animals gathered round the manger there

The cow and donkey with the shaggy hair

The wooly sheep and the dove so fair

and they said that his name was...Jesus

Gloria

He come from the glorious kingdom!

2nd Grade Behold That Star

Behold that star, Behold that star up yonder!

Behold that star! It is the star of Bethlehem

O Little town of Bethlehem how still we see thee lie!

Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by.

Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light;

The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight

Silent night, Holy night!

Wondrous star, lend thy light.

With the angels let us sing

Alleluia to our King

Christ the Savior is born, Christ the Savior is born!

Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and ev’rywhere;

Go, tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born!

While shepherds kept their watching o’er silent flocks by night, behold throughout the heavens, there shone a holy light.

Behold that star, behold that star up yonder!

Behold that star, it is the star of Bethlehem.

Finale (K,1,2)

On this day earth shall ring

With the song children sing

to the Lord Christ our King,

born on earth to save us;

Him the Father gave us

He brings joy, joy, joy,

He brings love, love, love

He brings joy, He brings love

Love that knows no ending

God’s bright star o’er His head,

wise men three to Him led;

kneel they low by His bed

lay their gifts before Him

Praise Him and adore Him

Bring Him joy, joy, joy

Bring Him love, love, love

Bring Him joy, bring Him love

Love that knows no ending

Hail the heav’n-born Prince of Peace!

Hail the Sun of Righteousness!

Light and life to all He brings

Ris’n with healing in His wings!

Mild He lays His glory by,

born that we no more may die,

born to raise us from the earth

born to give us second birth.

Hark! the herald angels sing,

Gloria, Gloria,

Glory to the newborn King!
